GTA 6 is officially delayed, but this postponement of the release date, if it divides the players, is actually a good thing, both for the game and for the Rockstar teams.
It’s now official: GTA 6 will not be released in 2025, as many hoped. Rockstar Games has announced a new date, set at May 26, 2026. A blow for fans, but a decision which, ultimately, surprises anyone internally?
A delay that does not fall from the sky for GTA 6
For several months, corridor noises went in the same direction for GTA 6. Even internally, at Rockstar, nobody seemed to be seriously believing in 2025. According to the journalist Jason Schreierseveral developers already saw this report as inevitable. Too much work. Not enough time. And above all, an assumed will to avoid crunch.
This word, which has become sadly famous in the industry, designates these periods of pressure development, with extended hours, sometimes until exhaustion. Rockstar obviously wants to turn the page of this time, especially after the criticisms that had followed the exit from Red Dead Redemption 2. GTA 6 should not follow the same path.
Better late than sloppy?
For many, this postponement of GTA 6 is therefore a good thing. Admittedly, waiting for another year is not delightful. But if this allows the teams to work in better conditions, and the game to arrive more successful, then the choice seems logical.
Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, officially supports this decision. His CEO even talks about a necessary time to “fully realize the creative vision” of the studio. Words that aim as much to reassure players as to calm investors.
This change has consequences far beyond Rockstar. By absent from 2025, GTA 6 leaves a huge void in the planning of outings. Other publishers could take the opportunity to move forward or reposition their games. Some analysts even predict that The year 2025 could be dominated by Nintendo.
That said, this absence will not only be happy. Some investors, who bet large on a launch at the end of 2025, may cringe. Especially after months of reassuring communication from Take-Two, which still recently said “to feel confident” on the release date.
