Renowned for its foolproof inclusiveness, the Sims 4 has recently been the subject of a large controversy due to the existence of a mod to remove any trace of diversity in the game.
Of The Witcher 4 has Ghost of Yoteipassing by Tomb Raider or Life is Strange: Double Exposuremany popular games have found themselves at the heart of a cultural war that has been tearing internet for several years now: the famous “wokism”. Indeed, the notion of growing inclusiveness in the video game industry is far from being to everyone’s taste, which regularly triggers various controversies. The latest victim: The Sims 4who saw the birth of a mod intended to remove any trace of Dei (diversity, equality, inclusiveness) in the game …
Sims 4 targeted by the anti-Woke community
Called “Dei Remover”, it boasts of “Replace the game quotas of the games 4 with the explicit desire to parody and criticize the ideology […] by making all the NPCs not diverse ”. In other words, once installed, this MOD deletes all traces of diversity to make room for white Sims of appearance “Healthy (not big)”cisgenres and heterosexuals. Exit the hair colors deemed “Non -natural” SO. And that’s not all. Colored, homosexual and trans characters, as well as all LGBT Friendly content are also targeted.
The creator of the mod in question has also confessed that he even wanted to go even further at the origin. He also plans to delete Sims 4 all the elements preventing the Sims from having a purely Caucasian appearance. Among others, in particular: Afro haircuts, or certain appearances of nose, mouth and eyes. But that was impossible for him. And the worst in all of this? The “Dei Remover” mod was offered for download for more than a year, its first date of publication dating back to March 2024.
War to mods
Passed under EA radars, however, he was highlighted by Daniellebuilds, a designer of content specializing in Sims 4. She naturally invited her community of more than 300,000 people to report the mass in mass. Suffice to say that the publisher then did not take long before reacting, demanding his withdrawal from the administrator of the forum for non-compliance with the conditions of use as stated in the user contract, which all players must accept to access the title.
You should not harm the use by others of an EA service, nor use the EA services to download, distribute or use injuring or inappropriate content.
Any reasonably reprehensible content published and intended for other people or employees or EA representatives is prohibited. In particular the abusive, hateful, defamatory, sexually explicit, blasphemous, obscene, intimidating content, as well as the content constituting harassment or endangering minor people.
User contract of Electronic Arts, article 6 “Driving rules”
A request that was then qualified “Act of targeted censorship” On the part of the administrator, who nevertheless gave in to EA’s requirement … for a time. Because a few days later, the mod in question finally returned. And as we can imagine, it is unfortunately only a mod among so many others, dozens and dozens of similar mods being available everywhere. Suffice to say, therefore, that this is only the beginning of a long war for EA and the Sims 4, which have precisely multiplied the inclusive content in recent years.
