Dying Light: a big free update arrives, it will change everything

To celebrate the ten years of the franchise and the imminent return of Kyle Crane to a new opus, Techland is preparing to deploy a big update for Dying Light first of the name.

If there is one thing that cannot be taken from Techland, it is the exceptional follow -up which he knows how to show for all of his projects. Indeed, while the studio is currently preparing to launch Dying Light: The Beastscheduled for August 21, he does not intend to abandon the first two opus of the franchise. On the contrary, even, since in the context of what Tymon Smektala calls ” Summer Dying Light “, Both will be entitled to large updates. Starting with the first opus this week.

A big update arrives for Dying Light

Announced on the occasion of the ten years of the series, the retouched update of Dying Light will indeed be deployed tomorrow, Thursday, June 26, on all platforms. In particular, it will be accompanied by a certain graphic upgrade for the title, allowed thanks to better control of its engine by Techland. “In the past two years, we have added a lot, personalized and learned to make the most of the technology we already have” explains Grzegorz świstowski, technical director of the game, on this subject.

“One day, someone started applying these learnings to old assets – and the click happened: we could do it for the whole game”. In fact, thanks to this update, Dying Light will now take better quality textures, the scale and resolution of which have been reworked for a sharper rendering on the screen. A lot of work has also been done on shadows, lighting and PBR, which then allow the different surfaces to reflect light in a much more realistic way.

But that’s not all. Because the immersion also goes a lot through sound, Paweł Blaszczak, composer of the original dying light, agreed to return to the studio to offer the soundtrack a good stroke of polish. Techland also took the opportunity to integrate new tracks, while introducing new room sounds intended to strengthen the tension of experience, especially during exploration. “And we have seriously improved the sound of combat reactions”specifies in passing the studio.

Retouched version, not remastered

Be careful however, the director of the franchise insists well on it: “These are improvements, not a remaster!” »». So do not expect a total transformation of Dying Light, which remains what it is: a game just celebrating its tenth anniversary. Moreover, for those who ask themselves the question, this means that no configuration change is required to be able to take advantage of this retouched version. A version which, by the way, will also be available on the consoles of the previous generation.

And since Techland is an extremely generous studio, so be aware that this update will be offered for purely free on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC. Even if, as the press release specifies, “The level of changes may vary from one platform to another”. Anyway, it remains a very nice surprise for fans, and above all an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the history of Kyle Crane who, let us recall, will take up the headliner of Dying Light: The Beast at the end of the summer.
