Mindseye and its catastrophic launch already have very heavy consequences

Following the bitter failure met by Mindseye, Build A Rocket Boy confirmed that many layoffs were going to take place, and this now seems imminent.

The lull has only been short -lived. While the video game industry has been the subject of a terrifying number of layoffs in recent years, things have finally seemed to be able to stabilize for a few months. But here we are now left again. Thus, after Bend Studio (Days Gone) et Don’t Nod (Lost Records: Bloom & Rage) in recent weeks, or Xbox It was not later that yesterday, it is now the turn of the creators of MindsEye to face a wave of layoffs.

Releases arrive at Build in Rocket Boy

Indeed, as confirmed by the management of Build A Rocket Boy last week, the chaotic launch of Mindseye did a lot of trouble in the studio. Having become the most badly rated game of 2025 on Metacritic, the GTA-like did not at all encounter the expected commercial success, which then had terrible consequences on the team in charge of its design.

“We can confirm that we had to make the painful decision to inform our work team of certain internal changes at Build A Rocket Boy. Although we strive to reassign the roles of the greatest possible number of people affected by these changes, we unfortunately start a formal consultation process that could cause layoffs. This decision was not taken lightly, and we are committed to managing this process with transparency, equity and respect for all employees. We will provide more information to the team in the coming weeks ”.

And obviously, the restructuring would now be imminent since in recent hours, many Mindseye developers have then started speaking on social networks to indicate that their jobs are threatened. Currently, they are dozens of artists, designers, analysts, testers and more who are looking for a new box likely to accommodate their talents.

This thus seems to corroborate the IGN report, which indicated last week that more than 100 employees who worked on Mindseye could be assigned, knowing that Build A Rocket Boy would currently have nearly 300. The studio, however, has not officially confirmed this information, which leaves us in the real number of employees concerned by this restructuring.

An uncertain future for Mindseye

Despite Mindseye’s failure, Build A Rocket Boy does not intend to let go of the case. A few days ago, the title was able to welcome its third update Post-launch on PS5 and Xbox Series, which continues to make the necessary fixes for better functioning of the game. And as we can imagine, this same patch, which should also arrive on PC soon, will then be far from the last.

At this stage, we still do not know if the studio will be able to follow the program announced for Mindseye last May. Because by the beginning of 2026, the title is indeed supposed to accommodate a series of additional contentsuch as a multiplayer mode, additional missions or even special collaborations. But between the commercial failure of the game and the layoffs, it could ultimately be compromised.
