Sony has not forgotten his previous console, because the PS4 receives a new update, but this is bad news for some users of the latter.
In this month of July 2025, the PS4 This goes to a new version of its system software via the 12.52 update. If the previous ones proved to be generally rather minor, it is also apparently, in view of the features put forward on the official PlayStation website. But these actually hide an important and unfortunate change for some players.
A new small update with heavy consequences for the PS4
12 years after its release, the famous Sony PS4 regularly continues to update itself, just to maintain its system software on the page. A way like any other on the part of the Japanese giant not to abandon its console which had been extremely well sold, and continues to make the happiness of certain nostalgic, or those not wanting to go to the PS5.
It takes the form of the PS4 system software update 12.52, a weight of around 500 MB All the same, which apparently displays a fairly minor modification. On the official PlayStation website, it can indeed read in its notes the following mention: ” We have made changes to the security of the system software ».
However, this means that Sony has corrected some security vulnerabilities of the PS4 system software, and therefore comes to bring a certain blow to the communities of Modding/Jailbreaking of the previous PlayStation console. As a reminder, it is notably thanks to the latter’s jailbreak that some players were able to take advantage of certain games by exceeding a limited framerate, to reach the sacrosanct 60 FPS on a few titles, or even access games otherwise distinguished on the virtual machine of the machine. Let us recall, however, that Modder or Jailbreaker a console, whether it is the PS4 or another, constitutes a violation of the terms of service of its manufacturer, and is punishable accordingly by law.
