Borderlands 4: The card of the game officially revealed in advance

A few weeks before its release, Gearbox Software officially lifts the veil on the Borderlands 4 map and its impressive batch of collectibles to recover.

While each new passing day brings us a little closer to the exit from Borderlands 4scheduled for September 12, Gearbox is never missing a single opportunity to tease ourselves what will expect us in this new opus. Endgame contentsaddition of new features very demanded by fans, narrative elementsthe developers definitely have the tongue very well hanged, and we are not going to complain. Especially when it allows us to have a first overview of the large gaming area awaiting us.

Borderlands 4 map unveiled

Because yes, against all odds, Randy Pitchford has already unveiled the Borderlands 4 map in a new thread published on X a few days ago. It must also be said that the Gearbox boss, undoubtedly passionate about his work, regularly lets himself go to long tirades to reveal the behind the scenes of the game. This is for example that we learned the presence of a Combat radarwhich was added to the request of the fans when they deplored the absence of mini-map in the game.

And it is therefore in the same way that the creator reveals to us more about the design of the world of Borderlands 4, that the studio wanted “Large and homogeneous”. “We have designed a gigantic world, and we have committed to filling it! »» assures Pitchford after having confided that when they started in this company, « [ils] it is [savaient] Not really in what [ils s’engagaient] ». What they knew, however, was that they wanted to extend “Mobility and player travel capacities like never before”.

And this is precisely what complicated their task in the design of the world of Borderlands 4. because a player with increased mobility, he is a player capable of going anywhere. Even in the most unexpected places. This is why Pitchford challenged Andrew Reiner, one of the members of the studio, trying to reach areas of the a priori inaccessible map, which he did. The problem is that it then brought out a major problem in the eyes of the Gearbox boss: “These places seemed to be a virgin terrain”he raises.

More than 200 collectibles to recover

“Graeme Timmons, creative director of Borderlands 4, gathered with some of our designers, other artists and engineers, and decided that players had to find something when they go to these isolated or uninhabited regions” explains Pitchford. And this is how the idea of a collectible came to them: the Marcus Bobbleheads. Collection objects which, following a cataclysm on the moon of Elpis, would have been dispersed all over the lands of Kairos.

“Inspired by the discovery of Reiner of hidden places or off the beaten track, we started to place the Marcus Bobbleheads and to use them to tell little stories” specifies the creator of Borderlands 4, while taking advantage of the opportunity to reveal the Kairos map with the location of the 200 collectibles to recover. However, he would like to reassure the most refractory on this subject: “If you like this kind of thing, take advantage of it. If not, don’t worry. This does not concern you ”. To be reserved for players with acute collectority, therefore!
