Red Dead Redemption is in the news again, because it will be free for millions of players very soon. But this will only happen under one condition. Here’s what you need to know.
Netflix continues to strengthen its video game catalog and strikes a major blow with the arrival of Red Dead Redemption on smartphones. More than ten years after its initial release, the Rockstar classic will be given a second life on iOS and Android. An announcement which comes as the license multiplies the signals of return to the forefront.
Free Red Dead Redemption on one condition
For several days, Red Dead Redemption has continued to make talk about him. The ESRB has listed the game on PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch, suggesting that a new “current-gen” version is imminent. In the process, the iOS and Android pages were put online, confirming that the title will also arrive on mobiles via Netflix on December 4, 2025.
This choice is not trivial. The service is continuing its strategy of integrating major narrative games, especially as Red Dead Redemption remains one of the most popular titles in the Rockstar catalog. The arrival of a portable version therefore opens the door to a whole new generation of players, who will be able to discover the adventure of John Marston far from a console.
A complete edition, without multiplayer, but with Undead Nightmare
As is often the case with titles offered via Netflix Games, access to Red Dead Redemption will require an active subscription to the platform. The game will weigh around 3.1 GB on iOS and will require iOS 18 or newer. Note that multiplayer will not be included, which aligns this version with the latest reissues of the game.
On the other hand, the single-player content will be complete, with the entire main Red Dead campaign and the Undead Nightmare expansion. Players will be able to experience the original story, which follows the hunt for Marston’s former gang, before switching to an alternative adventure where the West is transformed into a territory infested with the undead. A contrast always appreciated by fans, and particularly suited to a mobile format where gaming sessions can be linked together easily.
