Avatar 3 is a big disappointment despite the huge box office

Avatar 3 Of Fire and Ashes is a hit at the cinema, but also disappoints a lot, to the point that the rest of the license could already be in danger. But fortunately nothing is decided yet.

James Cameron definitely doesn’t know how to keep things simple. The director continues in the most total excess with his Avatar 3 Of Fire and Ashwhich still wows but is less striking than the two previous episodes. After a first weekend of release in cinemas around the world, the event film clearly seems to be struggling, even though the figures are once again dizzying.

Avatar 3 is a hit, but it disappoints

In 2009, Avatar not only knew how to create an event, but he also and above all made history. Sixteen years after its theatrical release, it proudly sits at the top of the podium for the biggest box office hits of all time with more than $2.9 billion in revenue. Not far away, in third position, we find Avatar 2 The Way of Water with more than 2.3 billion dollars. It now remains to be seen whether Avatar 3 Of Fire and Ash will also manage to climb to the top of the ranking, and everyone is still perplexed about this. At the time of this first assessment after a first weekend of operation, Avatar 3 struggles to convince as much as expected. The film records a total of $345 million in revenuewhich is much less thanAvatar 2 over the same period (441 million). It’s a disappointment even if the results are very good.

Revenues below expectations

The film records 88 million dollars in revenue on American territory, where Avatar 2 had collected more than 130 million over the same period while, as a reminder, the start was seen as a small disappointment at the time since it was below somewhat surreal expectations, given the production costs. Note all the same that despite its decline, Avatar 3 did better than the first film and its 77 million dollars.

In the rest of the world, Avatar 3 records nearly 257 million, including more than 21 million in France. Moreover, for France, the film became the best release of the year with more than 273,000 tickets sold on its first day at the cinema. It’s better thanAvatar 2which had made around 230,000 (but was released in the middle of the World Cup). However, it is much worse than the first Avatarwhich had won over more than 300,000 French people.

The rest of the license in danger?

For its first days of operation, Avatar 3 disappoints if we compare it directly to the previous films in the franchise, but still remains a huge hit. If nothing is done yet, it could be that the film will never cross the symbolic barrier of 2 billion dollars, largely reached by its big brothers. The feedback is not as excellent as expected, which should impact word of mouth, and the overall buzz is also less than with Avatar 2which created the event by arriving thirteen years after the first film. If we wait even longer before selling the bear’s skin, the attitude of James Cameronlately very shy about sequel to sagabegins to echo. What if everything ended with Avatar 3Ultimately ?
