Every year, there are bound to be winners and losers. Today, we invite you to discover the list of the ten biggest video game failures of the year 2025 according to Metacritic.
In just a few days, the year 2025 will officially close its doors, putting a definitive end to a new chapter in video game history. A chapter which, as usual, has seen thousands of new titles created, with a certain number of clear successes but also some serious failures. And after having highlighted the first at length during multiple ceremonies, such as the Game Awards for example, the time has now come to look at the latter thanks to Metacritic.
Because as much as we love video games as a whole, that doesn’t mean that everything is always perfect. On the contrary. So where games like Chiaroscuro Expedition 33, Hades 2, Split FictionHollow Knight Silksong ou encore Death Stranding 2: On the Beach were able to make a positive impression, others, on the contrary, definitely missed the mark. And as usual, it is thanks to the rating aggregator Metacritic that we are now able to offer you the list of the ten worst for this year 2025:
10. Fast & Furious: Arcade Edition (45/100)
9. Scar-Lead Salvation (44/100)
8. QUByte Classics: Glover (44/100)
7. Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator (44/100)
6. Tamagotchi Plaza – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (43/100)
5. Gore Doctor (40/100)

2. Fire Emblem Shadows (37/100)
1. MindsEye (28/100)
Without too much surprise, the list in question is essentially made up of games unknown to the battalion, surrounded by a few small-scale productions which have failed to convince their audience. However, it is impossible not to highlight the presence of MindsEye in the ranking which, after hitting the headlines when it was launched last June, never managed to recover despite the efforts made by Build a Rocket Boy. At this stage, a comeback a la No Man’s Sky or Cyberpunk 2077 seems more than utopian.
Nintendo is in the game
We also highlight the presence of Fire Emblem Shadows which, despite the usual success of the Nintendo franchise, finishes here in second place for the worst games of 2025 according to Metacritic. That being said, the situation is actually less alarming than it seems, since it is simply a free-to-play mobile game. A formula that generally struggles to convince players and especially fans of major licenses, as this new title once again demonstrates. Let’s bet who Nintendo will catch up with Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weaveexpected for 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2.
