After its coronation at the Game Awards 2025, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and its universe could still have some very nice surprises in store for you. The studio director speaks.
After conquering the gaming world with its very first game, Sandfall Interactive is slowly looking towards the future. Chiaroscuro Expedition 33 having been a critical and commercial success, the universe has every chance of returning to the forefront. Guillaume Broche, director of the game and founder of the studio, has already teased a new creation in this world and is starting to discuss the way in which he conceives its design with his teams. Statements that could not be more reassuring.
Clair Obscur is a springboard for the studio, and yet
With other members of the studio, William Broche was invited by the Edge media for an end-of-year interview. He was thus able to approach success completely “ unexpected “, he says, of Clair Obscur Expedition 33. For him, the secret of this success was, on the one hand, the ability to ” adapt the game to the team in place “. On the other hand, it seemed fundamental to him to “ design a game we wanted to play “. He recognizes the character “ contradictory » of this posture which puts the player aside, it is also what seems best to him to guarantee the sincerity of the project.
It is therefore from this same perspective that Broche and Sandfall begin to consider the sequel. Because there should be a sequel. In fact, the studio boss specified last August that “Clair Obscur” is the name of a “ franchise » of which “Expedition 33” is the first episode in short. From then on, other adventures can be expected in this universe.
But what form will the future new Clair Obscur game take? For now, only fan theories, which include something around the Writers. As for Sandfall, there is no question of changing its scope. AlthoughExpedition 33 represents a significant cash flowBroche specifies that they are not going to expand the studio however. “ It might be tempting, but not for us “, he explains. And to conclude in a more than reassuring manner regarding the studio’s ability to continue on the same momentum:
We love creating games more than managing, so that’s what we will continue to do. These last five years have been some of the best years of my life. I want to find the same pleasure again.
