The year 2026 will begin with several doors closing for players. EA has decided to end the operation of several of its games… What do we know?
The start of 2026 promises to be difficult for several gaming communities. EA confirmed the upcoming closure of three gamesincluding a signed project BioWare. A decision which will make these titles partially or completely unplayable, once their servers are permanently offline. It’s always a very sad moment…
It’s the end for these EA games
The first concerned is Anthem at EA. Released in 2019, this multiplayer action RPG aroused great expectations before becoming one of the most criticized projects in recent BioWare history. Technical problems, lack of content and blurred vision quickly tarnished its launch. Despite several attempts to revive it, development of Anthem was officially abandoned in 2021. The game was then withdrawn from sale on August 15. THE January 12, 2026EA will permanently close its servers, making the title unusable in its current form, heavily dependent on online play. Two weeks later, another game will go offline at EA. It is about The Sims Mobiledeveloped by Maxis. Launched in 2018, this mobile game offered a simplified adaptation of the Sims universe, designed for short sessions and regular monitoring. After several years of operation, The Sims Mobile was removed from the stores on October 21, 2025. The closure of its servers is planned for January 24, 2026putting a definitive end to the experience.
Finally, the last game concerned is also the oldest and the least surprising. THE January 30, 2026EA will shut down the servers of NBA Live 19developed by EA Tiburon. Released in 2018, NBA Live 19 remains to this day the last episode of the franchise, paused by EA after disappointing commercial performance against the competition. The game was also removed from the catalog at the end of October 2025.
Why is Electronic Arts closing these games?
As is often the case, EA does not provide no official explanation regarding these closures. However, several elements allow us to understand the logic behind these decisions. All three games rely on online servers, which involves ongoing technical and human costs. When a title no longer generates sufficient revenue or active players, its maintenance becomes difficult to justify. In the case of NBA Live 19, the question of sports licenseslimited in time, also comes into play. It is therefore likely that these games now cost more to maintain than they made, although EA has never confirmed this publicly.
