Square Enix is preparing a special year for one of its most emblematic licenses. Dragon Quest 12 could be the center of attention, get ready.
The video game sector has historic licenses which have marked its history and continue to make it vibrate today. Among them, we cannot miss the J-RPG saga Dragon Quest. Launched in 1986, it will give rise to a twelfth iteration of its main formula in the near future. However, this new episode titled The Flames of Fate still remains relatively discreet. 2026 will be a special year for the saga created by Yūji Horii. Dragon Quest will celebrate its 40 ans d’existence and Square Enix does not intend to pass this remarkable anniversary in silence. On the official social networks of the license, the publisher has already announced that it is preparing “ various announcements » for this event. The message was obviously relayed by its creator who also invites fans to stay attentive to what is being prepared behind the scenes.
From experience, fans know that license anniversaries are often the occasion for major announcements from Square Enix. This is all the more true with certain more symbolic figures. Let us remember, it is in particular on the occasion of 35 years of DQ that the Japanese publisher has finally made Dragon Quest 12 official. Therefore, we would be very surprised not to see this title – which is really starting to be overdue 5 years after its announcement – emerge from the shadows on the occasion of these new celebrations.
If you’re impatiently waiting for Dragon Quest 12, keep an eye on Square Enix. Who knows if the publisher will not reserve a few surprises during conferences organized by manufacturers? That said, if there is one unmissable event which should concentrate the bulk of the announcements this year, it is the DQ Day. This one will return next spring, May 27, 2026. And even though the twelfth installment hasn’t yet been officially confirmed to show up that day, there’s a good chance it will finally show up with, hopefully, a release date.
