Almost a year after its release, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 continues to surprise us with new discoveries which show that at Sandfall Interactive, there is no shortage of inspiration.
2025 may now be behind us, but the games that made it successful are undoubtedly still far from having said their last word. And Chiaroscuro Expedition 33 proves it to us in these first days of 2026 with some rather interesting new discoveries. Because the title from Sandfall Interactive may be slowly approaching its first anniversary, that does not prevent players from continuing to explore its universe, even if it means discovering some information hidden by the developers during the production of the game.
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 reveals new secrets to us
In this case, the discovery of the day is not really found in the adventure itself but rather in the files of Clair Obscur Expedition 33, where an Internet user noticed the presence of a lot of information linked to the names of the bosses and other enemies that we encounter during the game. More precisely, Sandfall seems to have been busy clarifying why each one had been named as they were, which was undoubtedly aimed at facilitating the translation into other languages by specifying a little the context.
For example, in the case of the Signet, the team specifies that it is a word “which doesn’t really exist in this context but which[ils utilisent] as the feminine form of Chevalier, which means ‘Knight'”. As for Potter, Sandfall explains that it is simply a play on words with « Potter » in the sense that it is an enemy… “who uses pots”. Same with the Lancelier, which is a word “which has no specific meaning in French”but which was chosen because it represents a “enemy with a spear”.
We could then continue like this for a long time as the code of Clair Obscur Expedition 33 multiplies the information of the genre, even if some are a little more original than others. In good French, the Sandfall team for example did not hesitate to insert a link to the Wikipedia page of Pétanque to explain the name of Petank, or to do the same with One-Punch Man to explain that the Gestral no Puncho actually refers to it. And that’s without forgetting the Gestral Limonsol, whose name obviously comes from a « inside joke ».
French production
In short, as the Reddit post in question, created by Responsible-Race-575, can attest, this discovery is new proof that the production of a game can sometimes hide much more than we imagine. And it’s clear that at Sandfall, inspiration can be found almost everywhere. Obviously, this makes us all the more eager to discover the future projects of the studio, which recently reconfirmed having started working on the aftermath of Clair Obscur Expedition 33. Unfortunately, however, it may take a little time before we discover the result.
