Were you still waiting after the possible announcement of the arrival of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Nintendo Switch 2? In this case, we have bad news for you.
We learned it at the Game Awards last month: the aftermath Baldur’s Gate 3 is officially underway at Larian Studios. Indeed, three years after giving us the GOTY 2023, the Belgian team has now confirmed that it is working on its next title which, unfortunately for the fans, will not be Baldur’s Gate 4 but a new Divinity. And it turns out that the bad news doesn’t stop there, because if you were ever hoping to be able to enjoy Baldur’s Gate 3 on Nintendo Switch 2, you’re going to be disappointed once again.

And for good reason, during a question-and-answer session organized on Reddit a few days ago, Swen Vincke, the director of the game, confirmed that this will not happen. “We would have loved it, but it’s not up to us to decide” he actually responded to an Internet user asking him if we could expect to see Baldur’s Gate 3 land on the Nintendo console. A response which, inevitably, provoked many disappointing reactions. “Oh no, seriously? I still had so much hope for that” for example, exclaimed one player.
Of course, Larian’s response, particularly enigmatic, also did not fail to be the subject of multiple speculations on the web. Because more than a possible power problem linked to the Nintendo Switch 2, the absence of porting for Baldur’s Gate 3 actually seems to hide editorial differences behind the scenes. In any case, this is what insider NateTheHate reveals, in a tweet published just a few hours after Larian’s response.
“It’s the sad truth” he says. “While Larian would love to port Baldur’s Gate 3 to Switch 2… their relationship with Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast is not healthy”. As you will have understood, if your wish is not fulfilled, it would not be because the creators of the game have already moved on to something else, but rather because the license rights holders would oppose it. For what reason? We ignore it. But unless things change behind the scenes, it’s probably wiser to abandon the idea of seeing the game land on Nintendo Switch 2.
