Larian Studios recently announced that a beloved feature from Baldur’s Gate 3 might not be present on Divinity, at least when it releases.
As part of its major Q&A session relating to Divinityin particular to clarify things following a strong controversy Around the hot topic of using generative AI for concept art, Larian also had the opportunity to answer several questions relating to other elements of his upcoming game. Among them, the studio’s plans for an extremely popular feature of Baldur’s Gate 3which had already been a bit of a headache in its time.
A story from Baldur’s Gate 3 that will be repeated without modification for Divinity?
In addition to several questions relating to the controversial use of generative AI on Divinity, on which Larian was able to reaffirm his position, the recent “Ask Me Anything” session organized on Reddit was fortunately for the studio the opportunity to talk in more detail about its very ambitious project itself. The community was indeed very curious to know more about the gameplay, the very free RPG aspect of the title, or even its universe.
One question that resonated a lot with users was regarding Larian’s plans for the official mod support on Divinitywhich offer the community the keys to creating their own content on a game. On this subject, Artem Titov, gameplay director of the title, declared: “ Yes, we will provide the modding tools to the community, but we have not yet decided whether this will be the case at release or not “. Mods should however arrive quickly on PC, even during an early access phase, if Larian decides to use them, but not in an officially supported way.
It should be remembered that this was not the case on Baldur’s Gate 3 either. Larian wanted to ensure that official mod support was available on his previous game for all platforms via the famous patch 7which took a lot of time, especially to obtain support from console manufacturers. If the developers want to follow the same pattern on Divinity, we will therefore have to expect that history will repeat itself, and that official support for mods will only arrive on the occasion of a major patch after the release of the game. We can bet, however, that this is not likely to arrive for several years, and that Larian’s plans may still change between now and then.
