SEGA: after more than 25 years, this Mega Drive classic will officially return with several games

More than 25 years after the last game bearing its name, this great classic from SEGA, and more precisely from the Mega Drive, will officially make a comeback.

Originally born in 1992 on Mega Drive, then disappeared into the abyss after a final trip to the sea in 2000 on Dreamcast, a strong but also very particular license from SEGA has recently given important news. While many would rather call for a fanfare return of Crazy Taxi or Jet Set Radioa priori also in boxes somewhere, it is instead a franchise literally from the depths which should soon resurface. After numerous details in this direction last May, here are new echoes for a classic from the Japanese giant.

New echoes for a license from the depths of the time of the SEGA Mega Drive

As a reminder, Ed Annunziata, a SEGA veteran, announced last May that he was working within a studio of his creation on a multiple return of a certain Here are the Dauphins. A most relevant initiative, since he is in reality its creator. He had thus announced that he was working on the remasters of the first game and its sequel, Les Marées du Temps, but also on a third new game. The official website of the license thus featured a countdown leading us to April 25, 2026, which could mark the date of presentation of the latter.

Before this deadline, however, the cult SEGA license has already given news, once again through Ed Annunziata. More precisely via a press release published by A&R Atelier (via PR Newswire), a California studio with many veterans, including the original creators of Ecco the Dolphin. We learn there that “ several Ecco games and products are in development “. Ed Annunziata, father of the famous dolphin, had this to add on the subject: “ Ecco has always been more than a game about a dolphin. It’s a bridge between worlds ».

It remains to be seen what forms this bridge between worlds will take, and more particularly eras for SEGA. Should we expect several other projects in addition to the remasters of the first two and a third unreleased one? Maybe meet on the famous April 25, 2026 to find out.
