God of War: they allowed a whole generation to discover the license, their studio closed because of Meta

It’s a real blow of fate which strikes a studio which has contributed to making known a whole bunch of big video game licenses, including the first God of War.

The year 2026 definitely begins with a dynamic that sadly prevailed in previous years. Layoffs and closures are already coming one after the other. After the cutsUbisoftIt is Meta which is taking the lead this time with several studios that are dear to the hearts of gamers without you even knowing it. Among them, a team which had notably allowed as many people as possible to rediscover God of War.

Say goodbye to this studio which contributed to the aura of God of War

Large companies are starting 2026 with the desire to save money. On paper, it’s difficult to go against them. But where this is damaging is that these ambitions are accompanied by direct consequences for employees. We see it again this week with Meta’s announcement of its new layoff plan which will lead to a 10% reduction in its workforce in his branch Reality Labs. The result is irreparable damage to the video game sector and this risks saddening God of War fans.

To summarize, Meta is revamping its plans for everything related to the metaverse and virtual reality by trimming its Reality Labs. A decision taken after considerable financial losses amounting to more than $73 billion since 2020. In total, 1,500 employees would therefore be laid off, a considerable figure which is accompanied by the closure of three video game studios: Armature, Twisted Pixel and, finally, the one to whom we owe the God of War Collection, either Sanzaru Games.

Sanzaru was the first of this trio to join Meta, in 2020. A great catch for the company which got its hands on a team which had several ports and remasters of iconic licenses, including God of Warbut also Sly Cooper or even Spyro. Twisted Pixel and Armature arrived in the fold of the American giant in 2022. The first was best known as Microsoft Studios with its contributions to Xbox Live Arcade. The second, for its part, began with a remastered collection of Metal Gear Solid before producing Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate. The three studios had recently turned to virtual reality, a technology which seems to interest their parent company less today.
