A fan has discovered the unlikely origin of Monster Hunter Wilds’ biggest problem, still not completely fixed since its release, and is fixing it for Capcom.
Released almost a year ago already, Monster Hunter Wilds had a record launch for Capcom. The enthusiasm did not last very long, however, as the title suffered from enormous performance problems among many players, especially on PC. This can even make the title completely unplayable, and you will have to wait for the fourth major free update released last December to finally have the first effective fixes, but not perfect. At the same time, a fan would have discovered the flaw and a solution which completely resolves the situation. And the reason behind these massive performance issues turns out to be pretty unlikely, unless it was monstrously intentional.
Monstrous Monster Hunter Wilds performance issues fixed… by a fan
Reddit user de_Tylmarande, who had already helped Capcom correct the major performance problems that Dragon’s Dogma 2 also suffered from, made a particularly strange discovery in the Monster Hunter Wilds ecosystem. He indeed discovered that the Game code exhibited strange behavior when checking for the presence or absence of dozens of DLCs deployed since release.
He thus noticed that, the more active DLC a version of Monster Hunter Wilds has… the better the performance. De_Tylmarande had the experience of trying a PC version of the game without any DLC, then created a little mod making him believe that he had all the DLC. The result is clear: the version without additional content suffers from significant performance issues, while the experience is significantly smoother on the other. The creator of the mod has informed Capcom of his discovery. Note that this problem would not be intentionalonly the result of an unfortunate error in the game code.
For the moment, the mod created by de_Tylmarande aimed at making Monster Hunter Wilds believe that all DLC is installed has not made it public. He warned, however, that If Capcom does not correct the problem soon following its detailed report, it will make its mod available to players. For now, however, this means that this unofficial patch would only be accessible on PC. It now remains to be seen whether the Japanese studio will make good use of this saving discovery for a large part of the Monster Hunter Wilds community or not.
