Almost a year after its release, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 continues to attract more and more people in the industry, including among the most recognized JRPG creators.
For most studios, achieving a certain level of recognition in the industry is often a long-term process. For others, however, it is time to say it. This is particularly the case for Sandfall Interactive. Upon release of Chiaroscuro Expedition 33the French studio has indeed achieved the feat of attracting some of the greatest video game creators, including those whose work has served as inspiration for Guillaume Broche and his team. In fact, having Katsura Hashino’s blessing is still a great victory for the title.
The accolades continue for Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Because yes, the illustrious Japanese creator, who we have notably seen at work on major JRPG franchises such as Shin Megami Tensei, Persona or Metaphor ReFantazio recently revealed that he started playing Clair Obscur Expedition 33, and that he was deeply charmed by the experience. “I haven’t reached the end yet, so it’s difficult for me to give my opinion at the moment, but from what I saw, I noticed that it was made with a lot of love and care” he pointed out in the columns of Game Informer.
“It is very well done and very accomplished” Hashino then concludes, before discussing at greater length with the media how he plans to evolve the JRPG at Atlus in the years to come. Could it be that his discovery of Clair Obscur Expedition 33, whose success has truly been phenomenal throughout the year 2025, motivated him in this endeavor? It’s not impossible. Unless it was his meeting with Sandfall, which he claims to have “had the chance to meet” SO “that they were visiting Japan”which is the cause.
In any case, there is no doubt that his discussions with Broche’s team and his wanderings in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 have given rise to beautiful emotions in him, which promise great things for the future of the genre. And for Sandfall, this constitutes a great additional consecration, knowing that the studio was also entitled to numerous praises from Naoki Hamaguchi (Final Fantasy), Neil Druckmann (The Last of Us), Hideo Kojima (Death Stranding), Kim Hyung Tae (Stellar Blade) or Phil Spencer (Xbox).
