Netflix has already got its hands on one of the biggest films to come thanks to a juicy new deal. It is especially fans of the license who will be delighted with the news.
We know that, in addition to its in-house productions, Netflix focuses on a large number of popular films and series. It sometimes even happens that new releases that have barely been released in the cinema land on the platform, even if they inevitably arrive a little late in our country given our laws on media chronology which regulate the exploitation of films after their passage in the cinema. Soon, Netflix subscribers will in any case be able to enjoy one of the biggest films of the next few years, needless to say that it will inevitably be a huge success on the platform.
A huge, highly anticipated film already confirmed on Netflix
If there’s one upcoming movie that all video game fans are eagerly awaiting, it’s the live-action adaptation of Zelda. The film will normally arrive in cinemas on May 5, 2027 and will end its run on Netflix after its release in our cinemas and depending on the laws in force in each region. With us, you will have to wait at least a year, unless everything changes again between now and then (this is often the case). THE film The Legend of Zelda has been filming in New Zealand for a while now and the main cast has even already been made official.
It will therefore be the Australian actress Bo Bragason (seen in Sterling Point or even Les Radley) and Link will be played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (notably seen in The Haunting of Bly Manor). For once, fans of the license are won over as the actress and the main actor have been found. We don’t yet know what the film will tell us, hoping that it’s not just a copy and paste of one of the games, but rather something interesting and inspired like the very successful Super Mario Bros. In any case, the arrival on Netflix should create an event.
A partnership made to last
Moreover, the famous mustachioed man was also on Netflix shortly after its theatrical release and its sequel Super Mario Galaxy, scheduled for April 2026 in cinemas, should also be on Netflix even if nothing has yet been made official concerning it. The partnership between Netflix, Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, which is responsible for distributing the films, should be around for a while since it has been renewed until 2029.
“Our partnership with Netflix has always been extremely valuable. This new agreement with Pay-1 strengthens this partnership and solidifies the enduring appeal of our films in theaters with Netflix’s global audience.” says Paul Littmann, vice president of distribution at Sony Pictures. Among the films mentioned in the document as revealed by Famitsu, we therefore find The Legend of Zeldabut also Spider-Man Beyond the Spider-Verse, The Nightingalea war film with Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning, as well as the tetralogy devoted to the Beatles.
