When a game demonstrates inspirations that worked well, it’s hard not to be curious. This is the case with a new title which has just been revealed in a long trailer combining cinematics and gameplay extracts. Already, we sense a dynamic Chiaroscuro Expedition 33 which could well capture an audience keen to find a similar experience. The universe, for its part, is closer to a Where Winds Meetyou will understand why.
The promising encounter between Clair Obscur and Where Winds Meet
This beginning ofyear 2026 is already punctuated with tempting announcements. A new one has just been added to the list. This is a Chinese game called On the Edge, taken from the animated series of the same name. In fact, the title of San San Er Chuan presents itself as the unexpected meeting between Clair Obscur, the GOTY 2025 from Sandfall Interactive, and Where Winds Meet, the free-to-play phenomenon from Everstone Studio.
In terms of universe, On the Edge transports us to a fantasy china. Myths mix with reality for an adventure imbued with magic and supernatural phenomena. Even more, we find theesprit wuxia (literally “knight-errant”), which Where Winds Meet fans are already familiar with. On the other hand, in terms of gameplay, we are closer to Clair Obscur.
Indeed, On the Edge is a Turn-based RPG. A historic genre in the video game medium, but somewhat fallen into disuse. At least, until Sandfall put him back in the spotlight with Clair Obscur. We will therefore find a similar dynamic in this new production. But where the San San Er Chuan studio should stand out is not its staging. The title will focus on carefully choreographed clashes, worthy of Chinese heritage.
On the Edge will therefore be an unmissable event for those looking for an experience between Clair Obscur and Where Winds Meet. The game is currently in development under Unreal Engine 5 for future release on PCwithout a precise date however.
