Ubisoft has just made an Assassin’s Creed announcement that no one had really seen coming, with the return of one of the most appreciated heroes. What is it?
This is the kind of announcement that we do not see coming. This summer, Ezio Auditore, a cult figure ofAssassin’s Creedwill make a comeback … but not in a Ubisoft game. He joined Reverse: 1999a mobile RPG in turn, far from the Italian Renaissance. And yet, the sauce takes.
An amazing collaboration, but promising for Assassin’s Creed
The partnership between Ubisoft and the Chinese studio Bluepoch Games has just been formalized. Result: Ezio, but also Kassandra and Alexios (the heroes ofAssassin’s Creed Odyssey), will land in Reverse: 1999 from August 2025. This crossover will be launched simultaneously in all countries, with rewards and identical content for all players. A real desire to unify the community.
The Assassin’s Creed event will take place in two very distinct phases. First, head for Florence in the renaissance era. The opportunity to find Ezio in a familiar setting, but with a gameplay redesigned with the reverse sauce: 1999. Then, direction ancient Greece. Kassandra and Alexios will take over for a new adventure that promises a total change of scenery. All in a unique graphic style and a universe that mixes time travel, strategy and narration.
An original way to revive Ezio
This return of Ezio in such a different game can surprise. But he proves how popular this character remains, even fifteen years after his beginnings in Assassin’s Creed II. It is also a sign that the franchise is ready to explore new formats to reach a wider audience. And with more than 30 million players since its launch at the end of 2023, Reverse: 1999 is a logical choice to give a spotlight to this type of crossover. It may make Ubisoft want to do a little more with this character, and why not, one day, offer a full remake of the second episode.
