2025 will have been a busy year for the Assassin’s Creed license. But at a time when Tencent is at the helm of the license, what about this promising game which no longer provides any news? We have the answer.
The future of Assassin’s Creed looks different. In 2026, the license should be more discreet, because the next major opus, AC Hexe, would have been postponed internally after the delay by AC Shadows. It is now an open secret: the year would be marked more by the Caribbean than by the witch hunt. Ubisoft is indeed preparing the return of Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynceda remake that would feature modern graphics and gameplay improvements to align with current standards. After that, Ubisoft reportedly had around ten projects in development, one of which had been confirmed, but which seemed to have been quietly swept under the rug. However, this Assassin’s Creed like no other would be alive and well.
Assassin’s Creed game in China still alive
Games come and plans change. In September 2022, Ubisoft celebrated the 15th anniversary of its flagship license by devoting an entire segment to it during its Ubisoft Forward. Three games were announced there. First the one that became Assassin’s Creed Shadows, followed by AC Hexe, the next major episode, which promises to be darker than the other opuses. Then, in the middle of console and PC games, nestled Assassin’s Creed Jade. A title that is also special, since the episode in China is exclusively intended for smartphones. The first leaks from the test sessions suggested a game as solid as its console counterparts. Level Infinite, who were given the game, seemed to be on the right track, then nothing.
No more news, no more beta, the title seemed to have disappeared from the landscape. Between the internal upheavals at Ubisoft and the creation of a new subsidiary with Tencent for its major licenses, we thought that Jade had gotten lost in the twists and turns of this commotion. But no, it seems I didn’t miss his leap of faith. Tired of waiting for official communication, a fan went to ask Ubisoft directly, on its official Discord, what it was. The French company thus officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Jade was still planned for an upcoming release, without giving further details. Will it be released this year? Will we have any news in the coming months? These are the big questions.
A redesign of the game to be expected?
This long silence could, however, indicate that the game has undergone numerous changes since the last time it was shown, perhaps to integrate gameplay elements borrowed from Assassin’s Creed Shadows or to integrate more easily into the famous hub introduced with the episode taking place in Japan. As a reminder, Assassin’s Creed Jade takes place in ancient China, during the Qin dynasty. According to the latest information, the game was to offer an open world, deeper character creation and elements inspired by Wuxia action stories. In the meantime, a certain Where Winds Meet offered an even more advanced experience on consoles and mobiles. It remains to be seen whether Level Infinite’s game will suffer from comparison with NetEase’s free-to-play.
