If you loved the freedom of the gameplay of Baldur’s Gate 3 and the visual style of Hades 2, this game to try for free while waiting for its next release should satisfy you.
Adapting the freedom of a true tabletop role-playing game to the video game format is much more difficult than it seems, and few games have succeeded in transposing it so convincingly as Larian Studios’ masterpiece Baldur’s Gate 3. The independent game that interests us in any case attempts to take up the challenge in a rather convincing manner, by also mixing a visual style close toHadesbut also a narration inspired by the masterful Disco Elysium. A particularly ambitious cocktail, which you can try for free now.
An ambitious and esoteric mix between Baldur’s Gate 3, Hades and Disco Elysium to test for free
Produced by a single developer named Christoffer Bodegård and published by Raw Furyhere comes a C-RPG which attempts, like Baldur’s Gate 3, to reproduce the freedom of a real role-playing game in video game format. Called Esoteric Ebb, it can currently be tried for free via a demo on Steam, pending a final release in early 2026. Despite this early release, it has already managed to capture the attention of its audience by obtaining an average rating “Very positive” on the Valve platform.
At first glance, it is already intriguing with its comic-style visual style, reminiscent of Hades and Hades 2and its very typical Dungeons & Dragons universe, as illustrated by Baldur’s Gate 3 from which it is inspired. Because Esoteric Ebb has the rather original idea of us embody a cleric whose every decision, generally made via dialogues à la Disco Elysium, influences the course of the campaign, with the added bonus the random aspect of the role-playing game represented by the essential dice rolls.
Thus, we find in Esoteric Ebb the thrill of randomness by making a persuasion roll or other characteristicexactly like in a real game of D&D or a game of Baldur’s Gate 3. And, as in the title of Larian, the game offers us a total freedom in our approach. You can choose to be an exemplary cleric as well as the most abject of adventurers, without it ending our game, all with the right dose of randomness inherent in a role-playing game worthy of the name. A title that is definitely worth a look via its free demo while waiting for its full version if you are missing experiences similar to Baldur’s Gate 3.
