With Divinity, Larian Studios wants to do even better than Baldur’s Gate 3 and even surpass it, particularly when it comes to its character creator.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has already set the bar extremely high when it comes to offering an RPG offering stunning freedom of action to the player and in terms of a sprawling narrative, capable of adapting to all our choices, even the most improbable. However, Larian aims to do even better at all levels on Divinity. And, like any role-playing game worthy of the name, it begins with the creation of your character, which we will have to wait for even more complete in the next game from the Belgian studio.
A character creator even more Divin(ity) than that of Baldur’s Gate 3
With the particular aim of calming the crowds following the lively controversy which broke following an interview with its CEO discussing the use of generative AI on Divinity concept art, the studio behind Baldur’s Gate 3 recently organized a large-format Q&A session on Reddit. On this occasion, users were able to grill the developers about their plans regarding the content to expect in their new and very ambitious game.
A question regarding the Divinity character creator generated a lot of interest. That of Baldur’s Gate 3, despite a fairly limited number of faces, was already extremely rich (and even more so thanks to mods), with a plethora of options for creating a truly unique avatar… but also a certain person who visits us in our dreams. Many players have certainly spent hours on this menu alone, before even starting their game.
Alena Dubrovnia, character art director, responded: “ We plan with Divinity to have an even better character creator than Baldur’s Gate 3. More colors, more options, more control “. This should satisfy fans of such functionality. However, it remains to be seen what “more control” means. Will we be entitled to more preconstructed faces than in Baldur’s Gate 3, or to sliders for different parts of the face? This time will we be able to create our own class and the personality of our avatar, and always choose the instrument that will accompany our exploits, as in Original Sin 2 ? So many questions which will unfortunately require a lot of patience to get more concrete answers.
