A page is turning for good in the history of the FIFA license. Electronic Arts has just announced the news that many feared, but which was inevitable.
It’s time to hang up the crampons. It was only a matter of time before that happened. This time it’s good: Electronic Arts draws a definitive line on the license FIFAleaving the field now completely free in its catalog to the football iterations of EA Sports FC. The farewell date is now clearly displayed, prepare yourself to see an era end at the publisher.
EA says goodbye to FIFA, the date has fallen
Last September, Electronic Arts released its third EA FC with the2026 edition. Since 2023, the publisher has had to bounce back with theabandonment of the FIFA license after 30 years of partnership. For its part, the federation intends to continue video game productions elsewhere. The players had to get used to this change, but they still had the leisure of a complete opus dating from before this transition. But this is about to come to an end.
Indeed, Electronic Arts very recently updated the list of his games whose servers will soon be closed. In the list, we find several renowned titles, such as Need for Speed Rivals, Grid 2 or even a certain FIFA 23. As a symbol, the football opus displaying Kylian Mbappé from behind on its jacket will therefore see all its online features be disabled sur Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 et PlayStation 5 le October 30, 2025.
A page that turns for football games
If this announcement has the effect of a hammer blow, it is because FIFA 23 is the latest episode bearing the name of the federation developed and published by Electronic Arts. It is therefore an important page which is turning in the history of football simulations.
Of course, the game will still be playable as is, with its offline features. But many favor online modes, including Ultimate Team mode and Pro Clubs. Even simple updates will no longer be deployed.
From now on, everything will happen on the side of EA Sports FC. FIFA, for its part, is currently focusing on mobile market ahead of a future game that could potentially rival the leader in virtual football.
