While the fourth part marks the end of the adventures of Nathan Drake, many fans still dream of an Uncharted 5. A dream that would not be so absurd as that.
Would a new episode be possible? While Naughty Dog focuses on its new license, Intergalactic, one of its most emblematic titles of the last two decades is being talked about again. The studio indicated a few years ago that it had turned the page, some dream of one day seeing a Uncharted 5 come to fruition. However, it seems that such a project was well planned for a time. In any case, this is what a new big leak suggests.
Uncharted 5 almost saw the light of day
This year we will already celebrate 10 years since the release ofUncharted 4: A Thief’s End. The fourth numbered episode of the license, it also marked an end to the story of Nathan Drake. Since then, we have been treated to a spin-off following other emblematic characters of the saga with The Lost Legacy. That said, Naughty Dog has since put its treasure hunters in the closet. Or at least, that’s what we believed until now.
In its podcast, the media Insider Gaming reveals that it was aware of a certain project behind the scenes. The generally well-informed journalist Tom Henderson reports that Naughty Dog had not given up on the idea of releasing Uncharted 5 at one time:
This isn’t the first time Naughty Dog has mentioned the idea of Uncharted 5. I know it was planned before COVID.
Obviously, the studio with the red paw had to review its plans along the way. It must be said that Naughty Dog went through a complicated period with the release of The Last of Us 2 in 2020. The intense crunch phase that took place at the end of development led to numerous departures from the teams. Is this what got the better of the famous Uncharted 5? Hard to say.
Still, a potential new part has been making headlines again lately. First there are rumors around the nature of a game that would be led by Shaun Escayg at Naughty Dog. As director of The Lost Legacy, one might wonder if he would not regain the license. Could it be that it gives birth to an Uncharted 5? Unless we finally get a remake of the first episode, which would also have been in the works for a while.
