FF9 undoubtedly appears at the top of the license pantheon. While rumors go well with a remake in HD-2D, the other promising project around the game could never see the light of day.
In recent years have been most prolific for Final Fantasy fans. Between a remastered collection of the first six games, an FF16 from dusting the license with an openly action -oriented gameplay, and especially an excellent FF7 Rebirth, fans had enough to take care of. Internally, the teams run on the last part of the remake trilogy, which should arrive faster than expected. However, it is another game that occupies the minds of the players: the famous FF9 Remake. Secret of Polichinelle or Arlesian, the title was one of the many projects to have leaké because of the flight of Nvidia. If Square Enix has still not formalized its existence, the Japanese publisher had in any case major projects for this episode as emblematic as appreciated. Unfortunately, they started to fall into the water.
Magic may go out for the FF9 series
If you read our columns assiduously, you are aware that Square Enix had ordered an animation series around the game at the French studio Cyber Group Studios. A project that had been started in 2021 and of which first images, as well as a presentation had toured the canvas. This FF9 Series was then to follow the adventures of six young black mages, all children of Vivi, inseparable character of the game. Peacely installed in Alexandria, their daily life would have been turned upside down while one of them finds himself frozen as a statue. It was clearly potential, but it would seem that the FF9 series never was born.
Despite its quality projects, the French studio was in economic difficulty and failed to straighten the bar. As our colleagues from Total Screen tell us, Cyber Group Studios is placed in compulsory liquidation. In other words, this means that no buyout has successful and that the company’s assets will be sold in order to pay the creditors. The FF9 series should therefore be part of it, but its future remains uncertain for the time being. However, it is not not excluded that the project will ultimately be transferred elsewherebut if that is the case, we may not see Vivi and his troop on our screens before a very long time.
We hope that by then, Square Enix will finally decide to reveal in the light of day FF9 Remake, which would be a reality according to several reliable sources. The Summer Game Fest seems indicated for an announcement that may give fans a hot stroke.
