We learned yesterday that the Switch and Switch 2 versions of the excellent Dispatch had been censored, making players unhappy. Nintendo has just spoken out on this subject.
After several months of waiting, Dispatch is officially available since Thursday January 29 on Nintendo consoles. Excellent news which now allows Switch and Switch 2 players to discover one of the best narrative games of the year. Yes, but with one detail. We also learned yesterday that these new versions of the game were released censoredwhich didn’t really please the players. The Japanese publisher has since spoken out, and today we have an official response from Nintendo regarding Dispatch’s censorship.
Dispatch must be censored on Nintendo Switch
Unlike the other PC and home console versions since October, the Switch and Switch 2 versions of the game are therefore necessarily censored. They do not include the option, optional in the settings, to deactivate harsher passages: references to sex, more vulgar sequences and scenes of violence. The AdHoc studio explained that it had “worked with Nintendo to ensure the content met the criteria for release on the console”. No wonder, this is often the case with Nintendo.
The specialized media GoNintendo contacted the publisher for an official response, and got it. Nintendo therefore officially responded to Dispatch’s censorship, explaining that « all games on the platform must be rated by an independent organization and meet criteria for their content ». The editor, however, goes on to explain “ work and inform your partners, but never make changes yourself ». The response from the Japanese publisher is therefore not surprising. One could naturally expect to see a game as explicit as Dispatch modified in one way or another on Nintendo Switch et Switch 2. However, we can only encourage you to discover this excellent title if you haven’t gotten your hands on it yet. Perhaps preferring its PC and home console versions to have the authentic experience, therefore.
