After the controversy that erupted during the deployment of season 1 of Overwatch, Blizzard announces changes requested by the community and the actress of the character concerned.
Overwatch finally achieved its rebirth. Almost 10 years after the release of the first episode, Blizzard had to face the facts: adding a “2” after a name was not enough. The teams in charge of the hero shooter then embarked on a major project to try to make this game a reference in the field, and it is clear that their efforts have borne fruit. The first season of this new Overwatch was a great success, and the plans revealed by the studio were positively received by the community. The only downside to this picture is the question of characters, especially female, who are too similar.
It’s sometimes difficult to distinguish whether Kiriko, Juno or Anran are behind the latest collaboration, as their features are almost identical. And that was particularly problematic for one of the latest arrivals, who was supposed to be older, fiercer and who had exactly the same candour as Kiriko. The actress who lends her voice amplified the voice of the community by also asking that Anran be more like the adult seen in the short film and comics dedicated to him. Blizzard had promised to correct the situation, and it would be done soon.
Aran’s new design will arrive with Overwatch Season 2
« We forget the baby’s face », jokes Blizzard from the outset in the video announcing the reworked design of Aran, which will be effective with season 2 of Overwatch. Aaron Keller, director of the game, admits that the first version did not honor the new heroine, in particular her “confidence, her determination, her ferocity, and her natural leadership”. At first glance, the differences are quite subtle, especially if we compare with the short film, where its features are more marked. Looking closer, especially with the post specifically detailing the changes, it’s more noticeable.
« We have five more heroes coming this year, and we want them all to be true to themselves », Adds the director, thanking the players for their feedback. As when the controversy broke out, the Overwatch community is divided. Some find that the changes are not thorough enough, others are satisfied, because at least Arana no longer looks like Juno’s lost twin, Tracer or Kiriko. For the record, season 2 of Overwatch will launch on April 14 on consoles and PC.
