New year, new style. To start 2026 off right, PlayStation has just announced three new colors for the PS5, but some players are frustrated.
If 2025 will ultimately have been a relatively calm year for PlayStation, which will have especially shone with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach et Ghost of Yotei2026 is already shaping up to be a slightly busier year. Of Marathon has Marvel’s Wolverinepassing through SAROSthe Japanese firm certainly has some great adventures in store for us, knowing that there will undoubtedly be other surprises to come. But while waiting to discover them, a new announcement has just fallen for PS5 players, and it is far from making only people happy.
New PS5 colors announced by PlayStation
Indeed, without warning, PlayStation has just unveiled a new range of controllers and faceplates for its machine, brought together in what the firm has called “The Hyperpop Collection”. On the program: three new colors inspired by the brightness of RGB lights, with a Red model (Techno Red), a Green model (Remix Green) and a Blue model (Rhythm Blue). The whole being then illustrated by “a harmonious gradient”et “enhanced by a glossy finish that brings out the colors like never before”.
Available from March 12, 2026, pre-orders for The Hyperpop Collection will begin on January 16 at 10 a.m. (French time). As usual, this will then go through the official PlayStation store, but also through the various participating resellers. Note that the controllers will be offered at a price of €84.99 and that the PS5 faceplates, available in limited quantities according to the firm, will be sold at a price of €74.99. Nice little sums, then.
Players share their frustration
However, beyond the quality of The Hyperpop Collection which for the moment seems to bring a large number of players in agreement, many do not hesitate to criticize PlayStation for neglecting part of its community. Because you will no doubt have noticed, but the new facades are only dedicated to PS5 Slim, which leaves all PS5 and PS5 Pro owners in the lurch. A criticism that comes up regularly, but which still does not seem to help change things with Sony.
