Notice to PS Plus subscribers, your subscription will change and for millions of you it will even be the end of an era.
The end of the year is fast approaching and while many are still looking in the rearview mirror to take stock, others are already preferring to prepare for what comes next. Subscribers to PS Plus in particular must prepare for a huge change in their subscription. Although we are still lacking details, Sony is preparing to turn a page which may make some people cringe.
PS Plus will change for millions of players in January 2026
It’s now been five years since the PS5 arrived while the PS4 continues to survive against all odds. Unfortunately for her, she will gradually have to give way definitively to the latest PlayStation and from 2026, Sony will take her a step towards the grave. It’s not yet tomorrow that the PS4 will be unplugged, however, things will slowly move in this direction in 2026 and it will start with a big change on the PS Plus side. As planned for several months already, from January 2026, PS Plus will no longer guarantee PS4 games in its monthly free games. Which means that in addition to potentially cross-generation titles (available on PS4 & PS5 with one and the same version), PS4 players will no longer be able to enjoy free games.
The end of an era that it was time to see arrive casually, the PS4 having been available since 2013, it is now a real dinosaur.

Even if this is necessarily bad news for the millions of PS4 players still active, PS5 players can rub their hands. They will finally have the assurance of only having games suitable for their PS5. It was about time! This major change to PS Plus still raises a lot of questions. The first being necessarily that which concerns the price. If PS4 players will no longer have guaranteed games, what about prices? Will they evolve for players who still don’t want to change consoles? The question still remains.
As it stands, we should see the first changes as soon as the new monthly PS Plus games appear, like at the start of the month. For now, you can still recover your free games of December 2025there are 5 including excellent ones like LEGO Horizon Adventures or the surprising and addictive Neon White.
