Star Citizen may well surprise PS5 and Xbox Series players

Squadron 42, could the Star Citizen spin-off also benefit from an outing on consoles? A job offer recently shared by the studio sows doubts.

In the video game industry, Star Citizen is of those projects that fascinate as much as they question. In development since 2012, the MMO space designed by Cloud Imperium Games has indeed entered early access now seven years ago, a sign of the complexity of the product title thanks to large -scale crowdfunding. And the same goes for his spin-off, Squadron 42whose release was initially announced for 2014 before being postponed for a long time by the studio. In question in particular: the fact that the project has grown a lot of magnitude, to the point, perhaps, to consider an outing on consoles.

The Star Citizen’s spin-off also provided on consoles?

Solo game taking place in the universe of Star Citizen, Squadron 42 is designed by Cloud Imperium to be a more accessible experience designed in parallel with the MMO. Described as a spiritual successor to franchises like Wing Commander et Starlancerhe now displays large -scale cinematographic ambitions, evidenced by the casting of the adventure. Because from Gary Oldman (Harry Potter) to Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings), via Gillian Anderson (X-Files, Sex Education), Henry Cavill (The Witcher) or Mark Hamill (Star Wars), we can say that there are beautiful people.

And precisely, as some Internet users have noticed, the studio is currently looking for new developers to strengthen its ranks. It is more precisely a question for him to recruit new animators for the cutscenes, who will then aim to “Give life to the performance of some of the best players in the industry to integrate them into the story of Squadron 42”. A story which, still according to the job offer, will be made up of “Multiple branches”of a narration “Deep and emotional”but also obviously “Exciting action”.

This mainly caught the attention of the players, however, is a little further in the announcement. Because if we go to the part dedicated to the qualifications required for the position, we can then find the following mention at the top of the list: “Professional experience in the development of game animations, ideally on current consoles / Next-Gen”. Surprising precision, therefore, knowing that Squadron 42 has not been announced that on PC for the time. And inevitably, it didn’t take more for some to imagine that it also presages an outing of the game on consoles.

An outing that is slowly approaching

So, would a surprise announcement be approaching Cloud Imperium Games? And if necessary, can we expect a simultaneous outing of the game on consoles and PC? Or should we rather expect a delayed outing? We will have to wait to find out. That said, the release of Squadron 42 having been announced for 2026, we should no longer have to wait too long before we know the end of this story. And who knows, perhaps the same fate awaits Star Citizen on arrival, even if the carrying of a MMO of this magnitude may be infinitely more complicated than that of a solo narrative adventure.
