Clearly, things are complicated within Ubisoft at the start of 2026. A new announcement shakes the future of the teams and, at the same time, the development of The Division 3.
The concerns of fans of Tom Clancy’s games, and in particular those who are waiting The Division 3will be more than legitimate after this discovery. Once again, Ubisoft is faithful to the reputation that has stuck with it for several years now. A heavy decision has just been brought to our attention, yet another one which follows a first big upheaval for 2026.
The Division 3 jeopardized by Ubisoft?
The year 2026 is off to a strong start for Ubisoft, but not in a good way. Indeed, the French giant has been undertaking a complete restructuring for several years. This took on a new dimension in the fall of 2025 with the opening of a Creative house dedicated to the publisher’s largest licenses. At the same time, this has obviously inspired staff cuts and will directly impact The Division 3.
Indeed, after the announcement of the closure of the Halifax studio, the publisher continues to make decisions within its teams. This time, it is the Swedish structures which are directly affected. Thus, we learn that a plan of dismissal of 55 employees just hit Massive Entertainment et Ubisoft Stockholmor the team to which we owe the recent Avatar Frontiers of Pandora and one of its supporting studios. Therefore, this implies a reduction in human resources for the development of The Division 3.
The news was shared via an internal email. The latter indicates that these dismissals would not be due to performance issues. At the same time, Ubisoft reassures in a certain way by specifying that “ long-term studio plans remain unchanged “. We therefore understand that development of The Division 3 continues at Massivealthough the team will be reduced by several employees (the exact number is still to be determined).
As a reminder, Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 was announced in 2023, the same year as the release of Avatar. Meanwhile, Massive Entertainment has also completed the development of Star Wars Outlaws. However, these last two productions did not exactly meet Ubisoft’s expectations in terms of sales. Will the fate of the studio be decided with the upcoming extraction shooter?
