For several weeks, the community has only heard the name Sims Project X. Straddling the remaster and the new game, the next title should set the tone for the future of the saga. A first image of the next game has just been revealed.
2025 will have been a special year for The Sims. Between the announcement of the takeover of EA by Saudi Arabia, the end of the Anadius era, the publisher’s desire to impose AI on its studios and DLC of varying quality… The future of the license seems more uncertain than ever, especially since plans have obviously changed. According to the latest rumors, the future of the franchise would involve a new game which would be neither The Sims 5nor a simple remaster of the fourth opus, but an in-between. A project confirmed half-heartedly by Electronic Arts, which would be revealed today through the first images.
A first look at The Sims 4.5?
If you read us regularly, you know that a rumor has been igniting the Sims community for several weeks. Shortly before the start of the new year, the famous Sims 4.5 would have been the subject of first revelations. A source who worked with the EA Firemonkeys studio revealed that Maxis would be working on a title that would be neither a true remaster nor a new game worthy of the name “Sims 5”. The project would then take the bases of the fourth opus by adding an open world, more lively neighborhoods, a completely new technical base, as well as improved graphics. The outdated and much-maligned artistic direction of The Sims 4 would therefore give way to an aesthetic closer to that of the first images of Project Rene, which was to mark the start of a new era for the license.
During the weekend of January 3, 2026, the first images of this Sims 4.5 and its characters would have been revealed. THE fansite SimsCommunity would have received an anonymous image from someone close to the project showing marketing support from the famous Sims Project X showing the design of The Sims. Naturally, the latter is more refined, more in tune with the times and more next-gen, while respecting the cartoon aesthetic dear to the license. An in-between between The Sims 3 and 4, in short, which should not displease the community, or at least those who do not swear by alpha CC.
The file in question is called « TSX_MATERIAL_SIMS_EXPLORATOR »which suggests that Maxis has started preparing the game’s marketing materials for an upcoming reveal, but above all that the studio may not yet have made a firm decision regarding the name. Sims 5, X or something else? Only the future will tell us.

However, we invite you to put on your best anti-fake suit to start the year. If the existence of the remaster seems certain, the veracity of the image could not be proven, especially since artifacts found in images or resources generated by AI are visible in the hair of certain characters. But as EA has begun to impose this technology on its studios, it is difficult to know if this image comes from an internal resource or if it is fake. In any case, it corresponds to what Maxis had revealed about Project Rene’s single-player mode on PC and consoles at the time.
