This is the next big Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive expected for the coming weeks and Big N is finally pulling out all the stops by presenting its new features. Unsurprisingly, this new episode will set a new record.
We had almost forgotten it since its announcement with fanfare during the Nintendo Direct, but Mario Tennis Fever will be released on February 12, 2026 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. For his 40th birthday, the plumber brings out his snowshoes and his best shorts for a brand new episode of the saga.
Mario Tennis Fever releases the big game before its release on Nintendo Switch 2
For this return, the service will be provided by more than 38 playable characters, ranging from Luigi to Skelerex to Baby Waluigi. A crazy roster, the largest to date for the Mario Tennis license itself. The record was previously held by Mario Tennis Aces, which brought together 30 characters. Nintendo being what it is, all these beautiful people will be able to equip themselves with 30 frenzied rackets with varied skills and effects that will directly impact the outcome of a match. For example, the Ice racket will make the terrain slippery, while the Mushroom racket will shrink our opponent. We will therefore have to pay particular attention to frenzied strikes, which can cause damage and temporarily put us out of the game once our HP drops to zero.
This exclusivity Nintendo Switch 2 will also be accompanied new game modes like the Rings Challenge in which you have to score the most points by passing the ball through the rings more often than your opponents, Forest Tennis, a sort of tic-tac-toe; or the Tennis des Prodiges, a happy mess where all the rules are changed. Mario Tennis Fever will also offer a story mode, in which we will play as Baby Mario, which will act as a giant tutorial to learn the basics of the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, then its subtleties. If you want to learn more about the game, Big N published a video presenting all the new features of this episode:
