Faced with the major crisis that has been affecting the RAM market for several months, Nintendo takes stock of the Nintendo Switch 2 and discusses its potential price changes.
Component shortages, stock shortages, price inflation… We can say it: this generation of consoles will definitely have represented a real headache for manufacturers. And even if the impact of all this does not really seem to be seen from a commercial point of view, at least for the PS5 and the Nintendo Switch 2on the players’ side, being able to afford one of these precious machines sometimes tends to become a real luxury. Fortunately, Nintendo assures us: future buyers of its latest console can have peace of mind… for now.
No, the Nintendo Switch 2 is not impacted by the RAM shortage
Indeed, this will probably not have escaped your notice if you follow the news at all: the tech industry is currently facing a major shortage of RAM. As a result, manufacturers are forced to increase their prices exponentially, which could ultimately have a considerable impact on the console market. In any case, this is what some experts say, including journalist Tom Henderson, who recently declared that the PS6 as the next Xbox could be impacted.
But even beyond these, it is also the current consoles which could suffer from this shortage of RAM, seeing their prices increase again after several successive increases in recent years. Enough to raise serious concerns among players, therefore, and in particular among those who are still hesitant to fall for a Nintendo Switch 2. This is why the Japanese firm wanted to be as reassuring as possible by affirming that at this stage, the RAM problems have absolutely no problem. “no impact” on their activities and profits.
In any case, this is what Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo, declared during an interview for the Kyoto Shimbun media. And that comes down to one thing: anticipation. Because unlike certain other companies, the Japanese manufacturer claims to have ordered its parts and other materials according to its needs in the medium and long term, which therefore allows it to immediately have a sufficient quantity of RAM. However, as Furukawa points out: nothing is ever set in stone.
The company nevertheless says it is ready to adapt to the market
Indeed, if the situation seems to be under control for the Nintendo Switch 2 for the moment, no one can really predict how long this shortage will last. Therefore, the firm continues to actively monitor the market closely, and says it is ready to adapt according to its needs if necessary. To put it another way, therefore: if no price increase is expected immediately, the evolution of the RAM market will still dictate the evolution of Nintendo’s future strategy in the months and years to come.
Let us also take this opportunity to recall that the shortage of RAM could well be only one of the many factors likely to increase the prices of the Nintendo Switch 2. Because beyond this problem, changes in customs duties as there have recently been in the United States can, for example, also play a big role in this decision, in the same way as the market developments video game. In the meantime, as announced by Nintendo in May 2025: “the top priority is to quickly popularize the Nintendo Switch 2”.
