While Subnautica 2 continues for the moment to play the mystery card, a player who would have had access to a playtest version of the game shares us new information.
After meeting with a nice success with Subnautica and its DLC Below Zeroespecially on Steam where the game was really hit before exporting on other platforms, Unknown Worlds is now preparing to plunge players back into the depths of an extraterrestrial ocean with Subnautica 2expected for this year in early access. Officialized in October 2024, the title has since remained extremely discreet, apart from a few dev logs published on YouTube. A player, however, would have had the opportunity to approach the game very recently, which allows him today to reveal some unpublished details about him.
Possible flight information for Subnautica 2
First of all, we prefer to warn you: everything you will read in the lines that will follow is to be taken with large tweezers. These are indeed declarations made by a surfer on Reddit, who claims to have managed to access a Playtest version of Subnautica 2 in a completely unofficial way. And if the method described to do this is somewhat complex to understand, it has nevertheless returned with details which, if they turn out, are extremely interesting.
First of all, the player says that unlike his predecessors, Subnautica 2 begins directly at the bottom of the ocean, not on the surface. An approach which, according to him, “Is quite interesting and arouses fear”even if it is only short -lived since you are then quickly propelled to the surface. Although it happens on a new planet, the game would also make some echoes at the first Subnautica and its spin-off, Below Zero, mentioning characters like Ryley and Marguerrit through the PDA.
Another interesting point, Subnautica 2 would introduce a new gameplay mechanics: genetic modification. This would allow players to modify their character’s genes to better adapt to the most extreme conditions. “This partly explains why you can start so deep, and this is an important element in history. I was nervous at the idea of using this mechanics at the start but the more I used it, the more it made sense ” specifies the user. “A section of the PDA presents your adaptations”.
A terrifying game, and potentially compatible with VR
Finally, that the players anxious to know if Subnautica 2 will keep its creepy and claustrophobic side are reassured: this is obviously the case. Moreover, the Internet user could have met a new enemy, the “Léviathan collector”, which would have an animation “Terrifying”. “I had to go beyond the borders of the playtest to see it, but I think that between that and the UEVR, I need a new pair of underwear” He says, inviting players to see more closely what the studio has already unveiled to have an overview.
Because this is also the last point to remember from all this information. While a Known Worlds has so far confirmed any care of the VR for the game, the Internet user says that Subnautica 2, developed under Unreal Engine 5.5.4, is currently compatible with the UEVR. This allowed him to play the title using a Meta Quest Pro helmet via Virtual Desktop. “I get 90 fps with high playing settings” He also indicates on this subject, without giving more details about his setup.
But again, let’s insist on that: all this remains to be taken with tweezers. Because also credible this information can be, it is in no way drawn from an official playtest. No more than a communication supervised by the studio. However, unless an unexpected postponement, Subnautica 2 should soon enter into the early access phase, which will then check the veracity of all this information. It only remains to wait for a Known Worlds to speak.
