On the occasion of a recent interview for Ghost of Yotei, Sucker Punch returned to the underside of the disappearance of a highly appreciated functionality of Ghost of Tsushima.
Last week, PlayStation broadcast the latest edition of its State of Play, intended to highlight its next big exclusive PS5 to come on October 2: Ghost of Yotei. During the latter, Sucker Punch then presented the universe of the game to us in addition to revealing some of the major new products expectedlike the revisited combat system for example. Because yes, like the reconfirms the studio at the microphone of Gamesradar+, the posture system introduced into Ghost of Tsushima is no longer.
Ghost of Yotei confirms a major change for fighting
If you played the adventures of Jin Sakai released in 2020, then you are probably without knowing that the game fights were based on an extremely appreciated system from the players: the postures. Indeed, depending on the type of enemy faced, it was possible to adapt the posture of the hero at any time in order to maximize the damage caused by our attacks. This system, however, will not be back in Ghost of Yotei. Instead, Sucker Punch preferred to introduce a new system based on different weapons.
“With Ghost of Yotei, we added many more diapers to give an impression of improvisation in combat” explains Nate Fox, the director of the game. “It’s deep!” We have replaced the posture system with weapons – in fact, we have added a fifth – and these weapons are much more than a simple visual replacement ”. What he understands is that like the postures of Ghost of Tsushima, each weapon will then have his own advantages depending on the situation.
For example, where the spear will allow you to go for its enemies at full speed to injure them, the kusarigama will allow to fight on several fronts at the same time. Likewise, Ghost of Yotei will introduce the possibility of disarming his opponents, knowing that they too will be able to disarm us in their turn. “Fox portrays the image of a fight at the top of a bridge and the obligation to use the weapon of an enemy who was disarmed because yours fell over the edge” explains the journalist of Gamesradar+in particular.
Other new products are to be expected
In other words, there is therefore no doubt that Ghost of Yotei will offer renewed combat sensations compared to Ghost of Tsushima, which should delight more than one. Not to mention that, as we were also able to learn during the State of Play, this new opus will also introduce the use of firearms, which have however been thought of as a second appeal by the studio. “It’s not like the Gun Kata, where the firearm is the melee weapon. The blades are the heart of fantasy ” specifies Fox.
Finally, the director of Ghost of Yotei also confirmed that the presence of the wolf, mysterious companion of clever ones during the conference, is “Much more elaborate and complete” that what we have seen. Regularly by our side, he will thus be able to take part in the fights and accompany us in our missions, even if his presence will not be systematic. “This is a wild creature, which will appear in certain missions, but not in others, because it will not come just because you call it in any situation.
