Seven days after its launch, players and the press are unanimous: Mindseye is currently the worst game released in this year 2025.
It’s been a week now that MindsEye is officially available, and unfortunately for Build A Rocket Boy, the situation seems to continue to deteriorate day by day. Indeed, while the studio recently shared its intention to get out of multiple patches in order to improve the catastrophic state In which the game has been since its launch, it appears that for many, evil is already done. So much so that the title now gets a very sad record, namely that of the worst game of the year 2025 on Metacritic.
Mindseye, elected worse game of 2025 to date
In the video game industry, the Metacritic aggregator is considered by many as a major reference. Bringing together hundreds of media recognized around the world, it makes it possible to combine the notes of each to extract a general average, which then serves to gauge the success of a game. But it is still necessary that the media could have access to the game to make the test. This was not the case with Mindseye, that Build A Rocket Boy was careful not to provide the press upstream of its release, and even after in many cases.
Therefore, for lack of notes to display, the latter’s Metacritic page remained very virgin in the days that followed its launch. But today, enough time has spent, and some media have finally been able to finish the game. The result is clear: with a metascore of 37/100 for eight criticism published, Mindseye is now the most poorly rated game of the year 2025. And even if it could slightly improve with the arrival of new tests in the coming days, we should probably not expect a miracle.
The players are ruthless
Suffice to say that the situation promises to be extremely complicated for Build a Rocket Boy therefore, whose future could well be compromised at the end of this first game. Note that players are not really more tender with Mindseye, since the latter then obtains an average of 2.5/10 for 311 user reviews on Metacritic. And the same goes for Steam, where 38% of the 1,726 published assessments are “rather negative”. Now remains to be seen if, like titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or No Man’s Sky Before him, Mindseye will raise the bar according to updates.
