While many fans eagerly await FF9 Remake, the official sequel to the original game is quietly returning from the dead. Here is all the latest information.
FF9 Remake will he become the new Arlesian of video games? Although its development has never been officially confirmed by Square Enix, many fans hope for it at every major industry event. Summer Game Fest, State of Play, 25th anniversary of the game, Game Awards… the game is expected at every opportunity, without ever showing itself. It all started in 2021 with the Nvidia leak, which revealed the existence of projects that we then thought improbable, but which were then confirmed and came out well. Among the latecomers to this list, we find the famous FF9 Remake. While the mystery persists as to its very existence, the sequel to the original game seems to be finally coming to fruition.
A series while waiting for FF9 Remake?
Revealed in 2021, the animated series Final Fantasy 9 finally seems to be getting back on track. The project was abandoned following the closure of French studio Cyber Group Studios earlier this year. His future, already uncertain before that, then seemed compromised. However, the FF9 series has obviously been taken over by another French studio, Euro Visual, with a release now planned for 2028, according to Écran Total, a site specializing in the film and television industry.
The FF9 series will focus on Bibi’s children, a group of six dark mages: Mel, Koln, Luciola, Théa, Fala and Doc. The last representatives of their race, they lead a quiet existence in Alexandria, protected by its inhabitants. But one day, Koln discovers Mel transformed into a stone statue in the inn where he works. A drama which seems linked to their father’s past and their heritage, which the siblings will investigate.
A 2D series for 2028
According to the documents shared, the FF9 series will be aimed at an audience aged 6 to 13 and will consist of 13 episodes of 22 minutes, all animated in 2D. This information is consistent with previous leaks from when the project was still under the direction of Cyber Group Studios, suggesting that the new producers will largely pick up where they left off. While waiting for a possible FF9 Remake (still absent subscribers), fans of the saga will be able to discover the rest of the story in a few years. As for a new game, the latest rumors pointed to a project in development, although it seems to be progressing slowly. With the game celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, many were hoping for an announcement for 2025, but it didn’t happen. Perhaps we will have to wait until the series is released to have new information? To be continued…
