Another news that may not go to players at all, since everything seems to indicate a new price increase for the Xbox Game Pass.
Bad news in sight for subscribers to Xbox Game Pass. A discreet change, identified in the site code xCloudsuggests that new price increase could happen very soon. And this time, the index is rather clear: a line baptized subcriptor overhang has been added, and its name does not really leave room for doubt.
A subscription that is more and more expensive for the Xbox Game Pass
The Xbox Game Pass has already experienced a price increase in September 2024. The subscription PC Game Pass had increased from € 9.99 to € 11.99 per month. The formula Ultimatewhich brings together console, PC, Cloud and EA Play, had climbed € 14.99 to € 17.99. Even the Xbox Game Pass Coreequivalent to the Xbox Live Gold, had been affected: its annual rate had increased from € 59.99 to € 69.99. This new potential modification is therefore part of a dynamic started for several months already.
With ever more ambitious games to produce, and constantly increasing development costs, Microsoft seems to want to adjust its prices to stay in line with market development. The Xbox Game Pass continues to integrate major titles as soon as they are released, even exclusives, which represents a huge investment for the company. For many, the service remains attractive, but by dint of successive increases, the question of the quality/price ratio returns more and more often.
A trend that affects the whole industry
Microsoft and its Xbox Game Pass is not alone on this ground. Sony also recently mentioned its pricing policy to PlayStation Plus. During a conference, the Japanese firm has confirmed that prices will continue to evolve, especially because the players are turning more and more to the most expensive formulas. In short, the whole market is moving towards more expensive subscriptionsbut also more segmented.
According to several leaks, Microsoft would also consider A new Game Pass formula only dedicated to the cloud gaming. This version would be cheaper than the Ultimate subscription, but would not allow you to install games locally. A logical strategy, especially at a time when the cloud is taking up more and more space in the Xbox ecosystem.
