This Mass Effect competitor looks even more promising than before

After Exodus which recently made headlines again, it’s the turn of this other serious competitor to Mass Effect to share particularly promising information.

After many years of empty space, now waiting with some apprehension Mass Effect 5ambitious alternatives to the legendary BioWare franchise are starting to take shape, such as Exodusdeveloped by veterans of the original trilogy. In addition to this title coming in early 2027, another one is gradually revealing its secrets, notably via a recent blog post published on theEpic Games Store.

Expansion of information for a promising alternative to Mass Effect

Besides Exodus developed by Archetype Entertainment, largely composed of Mass Effect veterans, the other space RPG which is generating some enthusiasm comes to us this time from Owlcat Games (series PathfinderWarhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader), codenamed The Expanse: Osiris Reborn. After a developer diary published last month focused on the enormous challenge of transposing the “realism” of space into a video game, the Epic Games Store hosted a dedicated article in its columns as such adapting the universe of the famous series and novels by James SA Corey.

First of all, Owlcat Games still emphasizes a huge common point between Osiris Reborn and Mass Effect: the central importance of the impact of our choices. Already a flagship element of the studio’s other games, these will continue to occupy a prominent place in their next title. With the difference that the development team here is 3 to 4 times larger than on their previous projects, allowing them in particular to push visual fidelity to an even more ambitious level, notably thanks to Unreal Engine 5 and his cutting-edge technologies such as Nanite and Lumen.

Owlcat Games also returns to the Osiris Reborn combat systemwhich still shares several points in common with Mass Effect, but with a great dose of “realism” when it comes to zero-G space clashes. Besides a third person view and use of cutlerywe can give orders to our companions. Finally, Owlcat Games warns that Osiris Reborn will have a fairly linear approach at the start of the gamebut that he will “ open up much more than players may think » later, with the ability to freely explore the solar system and its planets to follow the main plot or various side quests. Another great space epic in perspective for Mass Effect fans who are missing it, in short.
